About Us

Merchant Business Brokers was founded by Ian Jones and Shane Fox in 2016 with a view to establishing a superior business brokerage that delivers outstanding outcomes for people and businesses.

Ian and Shane have 50 years of combined experience covering both personal business ownership, corporate management roles and business broking – it is safe to say you will be in very experienced hands.

The Nationally award winning team based right here in Newcastle have helped many sellers and buyers all over NSW with their first business or in more cases than not acquiring additional businesses. 

The aim of Merchant is simple – to connect buyers with sellers!

Since its establishment, Merchant has grown to become the known, trusted and leading business broking specialist. Merchant’s experienced broker team, support staff, network of affiliates and industry professionals provides expertise across a wide range of industries.

Merchant Business Brokers are all about business and getting the job done. Selling a business is a serious and complex process, but first we strive to connect with every client so we can fully understand their needs, goals and expectations and create a customised strategic approach utilising our full team and resources. Ian Jones

As a business owner and multi award winning business broker and experienced business professional, Ian Jones has over 20 years of practical and broad business experience in all aspects of business sales, franchising, business development, marketing and retail network development.

Ian understands that the best way to make a difference for people wanting to buy or sell a business is to first fully understand their circumstances and to provide innovative and customized solutions that delivers clients with the very best outcomes.

Ian loves business and has a heart for helping people achieve their best in life and in business and will always go above and beyond to help business owners, buyers and sellers to achieve great results.


Shane Fox

Business Broker | Director

Shane been a business broker in Newcastle and the Hunter region since 2003 giving him an unparalleled insight into not only buying and selling businesses, but also the local region.

He has a passion for small business and has listed, sold or been involved with businesses  up to $20M, covering a wide range of sectors, including; heavy manufacturing, wholesale and distribution, childcare, professional services, construction and everything in-between!

Shane has always enjoyed economics, business law and marketing so it is no wonder he combined those areas of study and interest to find a career in business broking.

He has been a local award winner and holds the highest honour as NSW and National Business Broker of The Year as judged by the Australian Institute of Business Brokers (AIBB) for two consecutive years and dozens of positive reviews from sellers and buyers.
